I am filling out my air permit application and need information on potential to emit calculations? |
Potential to emit (PTE) calculations are required for every permit application. There are several resources available on DCA's Web site that help with PTE calculations. Calculations should be facilitywide in order to determine what type of permit is best for your facility. All calculations should be based on 8,760 hours of operation, regardless of how you actually operate. | Air |

How can I ensure that my air permit application is complete? |
Each air permit application undergoes an administrative and technical review. All applications must include process flow diagrams, facility layouts, emission calculations, material safety data sheets, equipment specifications, etc. More importantly, all forms must be filled out completely. At a minimum, you must complete DEP7007AI, N and V forms. The other forms are process-specific. The key to a complete application is proper documentation and consistency throughout the application. It is a good idea to include a process description and application summary at the beginning of every application. | Air |

How do I properly dispose of oily rags? |
Wrung-out oily rags are solid waste and a hazardous waste determination must be made for them just like any solid waste. However, any used oil wrung-out from the rags will be subject to used oil regulations. Basically what this means is, you'll want to have the rags tested to make sure they don't come back with any hazardous waste characteristics. Assuming they don't come back positive, then they can be disposed of as solid waste. Once the determination has been made, you'll want to dispose of them accordingly (either as hazardous waste or solid waste). | Waste |

I am considering demolishing my home to build another one on the same property, not in the same location. I have had it tested for asbestos and the test came back negative. There is no insulation in the walls and I have a metal roof. Can I bury the old home or does any part of it have to be hauled away? I plan to remove the metal from the roof. |
This is allowed and is considered a Permit-By-Rule according to our Solid Waste Regulations. Be sure to note that you'll want to make sure the construction waste is not being buried near a stream where erosion can occur and that if weathering causes the waste to become exposed, you could get issued a Notice of Violation (NOV) from the Department for Environmental Protection. Here is a link to the specific regulation: http://www.lrc.ky.gov/kar/401/047/150.htm. | Waste |

I have just been issued an air quality permit. What are the key things I need to know? |
Below are a few key points, and DCA has developed an air permit guide with more detailed information. Read your permit. Make notes of testing, monitoring and recordkeeping requirements. Know how to notify the Division of Air Quality (DAQ) in the event of an upset or malfunction. See https://dep.gateway.ky.gov/ePortal/DesktopDefault.aspx. Send in your semiannual and annual compliance reports on time. Implement basic recordkeeping requirements specified in the General Conditions of every permit. Complete and submit your electronic emissions inventory survey every year. Train employees on their responsibilities to ensure compliance. Don't let your permit expire, and reapply six months prior to expiration. | Air |
